Under 19 Badminton Team – A Division Champions

Badminton like many other racquet sports requires steady and well executed footwork as well as great racquet technique. The senior most Badminton players of Royal College fought for college on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th of April at the U-19 All – Island Badminton championship.

The A team commenced the tournament with a game against trinity, victorious they chanced an encounter with a powerful Richmond Side. It was clear that the skill level of both teams were on par as they battled it out. Alas! Royal was not able to hold its ground and lost to Richmond 3-2. Undiscouraged Royal A set about to become the champions of the A division. A motivated and strong Royal side was able to undo previous woes by emerging victorious against Rahula College with a score of 3 – 1. Bagging this victory allowed us to enter the finals for the A division championship title against D.S. Senanayake College. Bringing glory to her alma mater the team was able to dominate the D.S Senanayake players and win with an aggregate of 3-0. Thus concluding this tedious 4 day tournament as A division champions.

The Royal B team too had a fair amount of success. They played teams from Ananda, Nalanda B and D.S and were able to emerge victorious against Nalanda College B. However fell short of beating D.S and Ananda. However the Royal B team were placed A division second runners up.

The tournament served as learning point for the college team. Correcting their faults the talented and motivated U-19 side of Royal College Badminton vowed to come back and reclaim the Super – A division championship title next year.
